We had a great time during our first week of 2nd grade. Using cardboard, rubber bands, a hole punch and rulers, we made Hopper Poppers! We flattened them with the ruler, and when we released it, POP! It was fun to see how high we could get them to Hop. We learned a little about circuits with ping pong balls, batteries and small light bulbs. The 2nd graders also showed what Smart Cookies they are when they solved a series of math puzzles, unlocked some boxes and found the reward (Cookies and Smarties!)
It was a great beginning to what continues to be a great year.

2nd graders used newspaper, masking tape and imagination to create a vessel to protect a dropped Pringles Chip. The students did not get a practice round. They were given one chip and about 20 minutes to find a way to protect it with just newspaper and masking tape. We chose to drop the chips from our stairwell and I am happy to say we had many Pringles land safely and in one piece. We had a variety of chip ship designs and it was a great learning experience. The students shared ideas and cheered for each other as their chips safely landed. Those who had a chipped chip, were able to compare their designs to others and discover what might have gone wrong.
Students used iPads and a few Photo Editing Apps to create iPad Selfies.
